Getting your children and teens ready to go back to school is the perfect time to make sure they are also up to date with their immunizations. Preventive care is an important factor in maintaining good health, and starting the school year off with a routine physical and the appropriate immunizations is a great way to start.

Metro Health continues to remind the community that vaccines are the most effective tool to protect children against diseases such as diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, and others. Some helpful resources include:

• Recommended immunizations for children younger than 6 years old ^(PDF).
• Recommended immunizations for people who are 7-18 years old ^(PDF).
• If you don’t have health insurance or if your current one does not cover vaccines, the Vaccines for Children program is another available resource.
