SA Forward Plan

Metro Health’s 2021-2026 SA Forward plan is the result of several years of planning, deliberation, and effort. This strategic plan, built upon the responses and lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, addresses health disparities, social justice, public health capacity, and the state of our public health workforce.

SA Forward includes strategic priority areas of Access to Care, Data and Technology Infrastructure, Food Insecurity and Nutrition, Health Equity and Social Justice, Mental Health and Community Resilience and Violence Prevention. These priorities incorporate our department’s core strengths, identify areas of improvement, and address external trends. These strategic priorities incorporate the department’s core strengths, identify areas of improvement, and address external trends that will be addressed over the next five years. With this plan, Metro Health sets out to create a San Antonio that confronts our shared history and dares to imagine a better future.

As part of this plan, Metro Health launched a new dashboard website offering 50 data indicators to help stay informed about the County’s health including information on the pandemic.

The SA Forward Dashboard tells the story of our communities in Bexar County, sharing the most pressing challenges and health issues facing us today and in the future. This site provides residents insights into the social and economic drivers of health. This interactive platform allows residents to stay informed about how health disparities and the burden of disease are affecting their neighborhoods. These disparities have become even more evident since the COVID-19 pandemic started, with our COVID-19 data* showing a disproportionate amount of COVID hospitalization and death within our Hispanic/Latino communities. The graphs and maps are available for download to the media and public.
